Surgical Care

We perform many surgical procedures at Highland, including surgery of the skin, eyes, ears, mouth, head/neck, abdomen and bones and joints. This includes all elective surgeries such as spaying, neutering and declawing. Most surgical patients are able to return home in the evening the same day that surgery is performed.

All surgical patients at Highland receive pre-anesthetic blood tests, intravenous fluids during surgery, pain control before, during and after the surgical procedure and one-on-one anesthetic monitoring by one of our Certified Veterinary Technicians.

Dr. Bill Smith (formerly of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at the University of Illinois) provides orthopedic specialty services at Highland.
